From One Mother’s Need to a Movement of 280 Strong

The Moment Everything Changed

October 30th, 2023. A date that would unknowingly mark the beginning of something extraordinary.

María Lucía Bermúdez Oviedo- Malú to her friends had just become a mother. Like countless women before her, she found herself navigating the beautiful chaos of new motherhood while trying to maintain her identity as a purpose-driven entrepreneur. But there was something missing. Something she couldn’t quite put her finger on.

She looked around for communities, spaces, groups anywhere she might find women who understood what it felt like to be both completely devoted to your child and burning with entrepreneurial ambition. What she found were parenting groups that didn’t understand business, and business networks that didn’t get the reality of motherhood.

So she did what entrepreneurs do: she created what didn’t exist.

A WhatsApp Group That Started It All

It began with the simplest of actions, creating a WhatsApp group. No business plan, no marketing strategy, no grand vision statement. Just a Colombian connector in the Netherlands who believed there had to be other mothers out there feeling the same way.

“I couldn’t find a space where I felt fully seen -as a purpose-driven entrepreneur and a new mama,” Maria Malú reflects. “So I started something, hoping others might feel the same.”

They did.

What happened next defies every rule of modern community building. In a world obsessed with growth hacking and viral marketing, the Mamapreneur Collective grew the old-fashioned way: one genuine connection at a time.

No ads. No pushy promotions. No influencer partnerships.

Just word of mouth. One Mamapreneur inviting another because she felt something real here.

The Power of Organic Growth

Today, almost a year and a half later, +280 members strong, the Mamapreneur Collective stands as proof that authentic community still matters in our digital age.

But here’s what makes Maria Malú incredibly proud: every single one of those 270 members found their way here organically. Each woman was invited by someone who believed she belonged, who saw in her the same struggle and the same strength that defines this community.

This wasn’t an accident. It was intentional.

“Building a strong foundation is everything,” Malú explains. “That’s why I took my time. That’s why I stayed close to what matters. And that’s why this next chapter feels so powerful.”

What We Believe: Redefining Success

Mamapreneur Collective was born from a radical idea: that we don’t have to choose between being exceptional mothers and successful entrepreneurs. That success doesn’t have to come at the cost of our well-being, our families, or our values.

We believe in redefining success on our own terms by centering:

Balance – Not the mythical perfect balance, but the real, messy, ever-shifting balance that honors both our children and our dreams.

Connection – Because isolation is the enemy of both good mothering and good business. We grow stronger when we grow together.

Sustainable Growth – Building businesses that enhance our lives rather than consume them. Creating wealth that includes time wealth, energy wealth, and joy wealth.

The Foundation Principles That Guide Us

Trust Over Transactions

From day one, the Mamapreneur Collective has been built on trust rather than transactions. Members share vulnerably, support generously, and celebrate authentically – not because they have to, but because they want to.

Vulnerability as Strength

In a world that tells entrepreneurs to “fake it till you make it,” we’ve created a space where admitting you’re struggling is seen as courage, not weakness. Where asking for help is leadership, not failure.

Abundance Over Scarcity

We operate from the belief that there’s enough success, enough opportunities, enough support for all of us. When one mamapreneur wins, we all win.

Real Life Integration

We don’t pretend that business happens in a vacuum separate from family life. Our events accommodate children, our conversations acknowledge the reality of school pickups and sick days, and our expectations are grounded in the truth of what it means to be a working mother.

Why This Foundation Matters Now

As we launch our new website and marketing agency, as we expand our offerings and reach, this foundation becomes more important than ever. It’s what will keep us grounded as we grow. It’s what will ensure that member #500 feels the same sense of belonging that member #5 felt.

Because at the end of the day, the Mamapreneur Collective isn’t about the events we host or the services we offer -though those matter. It’s about the belief that drove Maria Malú to create that first WhatsApp group: that somewhere out there are women who refuse to choose between their children and their dreams.

And when those women find each other, magic happens.

The Next Chapter

What started as one mother’s need has become a movement. What began as a simple WhatsApp group has evolved into a thriving ecosystem of support, growth, and possibility.

But the foundation remains the same: trust, vulnerability, abundance, and the radical belief that we can have it all just not all at once, and not without each other.

This is just the beginning. The foundation is strong, the community is ready, and the future is bright.
